Places to visit
Paradise Houseboats is located on the Coomera River just behind Dreamworld. Save this for the last day of hire when you must return to the marina by 9.00am, when co-incidently, Dreamworld opens!
20 minutes down our picturesque Coomera river you come to the 'Cove' located at a junction where the river splits into a north and a south arm before exiting into the Gold Coast's fabulous Broadwater.
Sanctuary Cove is a beautiful harbour, residential resort and village style shopping complex. Limited grocery supplies are available, and there is a well stocked bottle shop and ample restaurants open seven days a week .
The most accessible major shopping complex only 2hrs away from PHB marina. Anchor up in the main channel and take the dinghy into the landing stage in the Runaway Bay canal for all your shopping needs. Menfolk beware! If you send the wife and kids alone, settle in for a long wait!
The heart of Southport and almost as big a shopping complex as Pacific Fair, Broadbeach. Access by outboard powered dinghy with houseboat anchored at the Spit. Males remaining on board for the duration should have plenty of bait, beer and sandwiches!
SeaWorld, Marina Mirage and Mariners Cove
All easily accessible from the Spit Lagoon, an easy walk down the beach or SeaWorld Drive. You may also use this location as a base from which to take a short taxi ride into Surfers or Broadbeach. The ocean and main surf beaches are only minutes away and other activities such as Para-flying and Bungy jumping operate nearby.
South Stradbroke Island Resort
Heading north from the Coomera river and away from civilisation, this is a popular holiday anchorage for singles and day trippers. Restaurant and bar facilities are open to boaties. Various watersports operate from the beach during Summer.
One of the finest restaurants in the southern hemisphere is located in this sleepy seaside village. Local shops, small Tavern and attached Bistro serves excellent seafood. Fuel and water available at Horizon Shores Marina to the north.
At the northern tip of Sth. Stradbroke the Island tapers off to vast sand dunes before the 'pin bar! Houseboats have safe access to this otherwise deserted location where the water is sparkling and the sandy bottom clearly visible making this a popular swimming area. Many sheltered anchorages also offer excellent fishing for Bream, Flathead, Tailor, Whiting, and Jew. Sandcrabs are also plentiful.
For the 'Captain Cooks' wanting to explore uninhabited lands the 'Canaipa' offers a variety of scenery ranging from low mudflats, towering sand dunes and offers up some of the prettiest anchorages you'll find anywhere in Oz. Koureyabba is reminiscent of Pittwater Sydney or Nara Inlet in the Whitsundays.
A large and fertile Island separating the Canaipa passage from the main inland waterway that connects Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Russell Island's population is serviced by regular vehicular ferries and most shopping is done on the Mainland. A small general store sells fresh bread and milk and some take-away food is available.
Wanting total seclusion, no passing traffic, peace and quiet? How about crab for lunch? This is a top spot - not easily accessible to deep draft vessels and day trippers. Enjoy the fishing, explore your surroundings or settle back with a good book.
